Download Data
Access the raw datasets that power the National Transit Station Atlas
All datasets are provided in CSV format and are freely available for download. These datasets support research, planning, and analysis related to transit-oriented development across the United States.
π Stations
Comprehensive dataset of transit stations across the country, including location, transit agency information, and station characteristics.
ποΈ Built Environment
Metrics describing the built environment characteristics around each transit station, including density measures, land use patterns, and urban form indicators.
π ΏοΈ Developable Land (Parking)
Analysis of surface parking lots and other potentially developable parcels within station areas, identifying opportunities for transit-oriented development.
π’ Housing Estimates
Estimates of housing units that can be built on parking near transit stations.
π Pro-Rated Parking and Housing Data
Pro-rated parking and housing data for overlapping station areas, allowing users to estimate the amount of developable land and new housing by transit line, transit system, city, county, and zip code.
π£οΈ Roadway Barriers
Identification and classification of roadway infrastructure that creates barriers to pedestrian access around transit stations, such as highways and major arterials.
πΊοΈ Street Network
Detailed street network data including connectivity metrics, street length, and network density
πΆ Walksheds
Pedestrian catchment areas around transit stations based on actual walking network distances, defining areas accessible within 5, 10, and 15-minute walks.
π΄ Complete Streets
Assessment of complete streets elements around transit stations, including presence of sidewalks and bike lanes.
π Flood Risk
Assessment of transit station risks to stormwater runoff and flooding. Includes a composite stormwater vulnerability score based on topographic drainage characteristics, impervious surface coverage, and station structural design, as well as FEMA National Flood Hazard Layer (NFHL) flood zone designations for each station.
π³ Tree Canopy & Heat Resilience
Tree canopy cover and impervious surface coverage for the Β½-mile walkshed around each transit station, derived from the USDA Forest Service NLCD 2021 data layers. Includes a composite heat exposure score and classification into one of four heat vulnerability quadrants (Cool Green Corridor, Mixed/Partial Cover, Bare/Open Land, or Urban Heat Island).
πΆ Safety
Information about pedestrian and cyclist fatalities in car crashes within 1/2 mile of transit stations from 2015β2024, derived from the NHTSA Fatality Analysis Reporting System (FARS).
ποΈ Census Blocks
2020 Census Data on population, housing, population density, and race and ethnicity for census blocks within 1/2 mile of transit stations.
π¦ The individual census block file contains over 610,000 rows across all 5,115 stations and is provided as a compressed zip archive (~12 MB). Extract the CSV before opening in Excel or loading into your analysis tool.
